LAB ART, Mr. Monopoly and Hollywood Nights…

Sorry that I’ve been a tad out of contact lately, but my website and my blog have been acting up. Probably hacked again. But now, after a ‘clean up’ it should be working again.

This Wednesday I went to the VIP opening of Alec Monopoly’s art show at LAB ART. All the movers and shakers from the hipster scene to the Hollywood night club and fashion scene RSVP’d and arrived fashionably late in their sleekest outfits, funny glasses, crazy hairdos and lots of tattoos to match bien sur.

The man of the hour Mr. Monopoly himself was milling around the art, media and drink hungry crowd with the lower part of his face covered by a scarf. Mysterious and dark or just plain shy? I think not the latter. But it doesn’t really matter what I think. Because everyone in the room adored it and personally, I had a great time taking in the scene of both sincere art lovers and pretentious hang arounds. Between air kisses, smiles, delicious canapés, quick catch-ups and number exchanges with friendly, old faces I found myself caught up in the scene of absolute ‘make believe’.  I am truly mesmerized with how there is no place like Hollywood to ‘create’ oneself’. To be whoever you want to be whenever you want it. Land of opportunity indeed. And if you are good and believe enough in yourself the rest will follow. At least that is what I see around me.

So, how was the show? It was fun. Tons of post modernistic pop art. Or should we call our era ‘The Post Steve Jobs’ era by now..? I’m not sure. Well, tons of graffiti-like art on walls, cars, canvas. Yeah on pretty much anything.

My good friend and gallery owner Iskander Lemseffer was looking dapper in his suit being the perfect host making sure everyone had plenty of booze, entertainment and fun. So after way too many salmon blinis and vodka cranberries, I know crazy combo, I simmered out onto LaBrea with a shit grin on my face, hauled myself into a cab and disappeared into another crazy Hollywood night…
