Confessions of a Nomad
Yesterday was spent driving down to Iguana Beach for new locations. It was a pretty long and bumpy ride, but nature is indescribably stunning out here so even though I got my kidneys shaken loose I enjoyed the trip a lot. We passed through a bunch of small villages and it’s pretty intense to recognize how crazily poor most families live out here compared to the grand houses and loaded prominent people we met and hung around with in Granada.
Iguana beach is a remote surfers paradise where only hippies, surfers and a couple of shy business men live. There is one bar, one restaurant, no convenience store, but funnily enough – a huge golf course. Because of the crazy dirt roads tourist rarely come around, and if they do it’s only to golf on the weekends.
Last night we hung out in a beach house sipping on pina coladas, smoking more cigars watching the tide come in while lighting played in the horizon. The air felt moist, salty and warm on the skin and made my hair blow in all directions. The scenario was almost surreal. Dramatic, out of control yet grounding. Like taking a step back to basics…
It rained and thundered heavily all night long. I love sleeping hearing the rain playing on the roof. Now this morning the sun is peeking out again and with all the water the smell of the rain forest has intensified by a 100 %. A symphony of fragrances that range from exotic flowers, grass, banana palm leaves to wet dirt.
I’m sitting here contemplating how many different places I’ve experienced through out the last 3 weeks. it sure has been a change of scenery: From warm Los Angeles to rainy, cold Copenhagen, return to good old Los Angeles again and now I’m visiting exotic Nicaragua…. It’s interesting how big a difference there is between people’s lifestyles and values in the 3 very different places….I wonder what my next destination will be…
I’m totally channeling ‘Gorillas in the Mist’ ha ha 🙂

My favorite non alcoholic beverage: Pitaya fruit drink. Gotta love the color!
The traditional Nicaraguan breakfast plate. Gallo Pinto, Maduros, Eggs and ham. Bon Appetit!
