Skin Rescue 101

Every time I visit Scandinavia my skin and hair gets unruly.  I’m not talking about the aftermath of the long haul flights from continent A to continent Z. At this point we are beyond the 10 K club. I always bring my personal rescue kit of super serum moisturizers and Evian water sprays in my hand luggage so the dryness from the ‘up-in-the-air’ situation is not the challenge per se.

No, feel it takes a lot of adjustment to a new climate. And especially one like Denmark where we have so much calcium in the water. Dry and flaky, yet oily skin and coarse and suddenly not so shiny hair anymore is what I’m stuck with. Ughh! A really annoying combination that makes you look like you smoke 60 cigarettes a day without filters. Not optimal.

So, I went back to the Basho Spa and asked Valentine if she could help me. She did an amazing job with my belly (check my earlier post about ‘how to get a flat belly’!) and she suggested I try a 60 minutes  ‘Pukka Skincare’ facial. The products are Ayurvedic and supposed to be very concentrated, yet super light in texture, which is great for sensitive skin like mine.

It was a blissful, relaxing experience. 60 minutes of ‘la dolce far niente’ (the sweetness of doing nothing) other than giving myself over to Valentine’s healing hands and trusting her scrubs, oils and serums to work the magic. A warm towel covering me made sure I felt safe and cuddled all through the treatment.

Since my skin is annoyingly sensitive I have to take extra good care of it every day. And I would say that I have had my shares of facials around the world and I know who to go to if I need extractions, and who to go to if I need a microdermabrasion and now I know who to go to if I need a luxury experience that relaxes my face completely. Bye-bye wrinkles! Valentine uses a mild scrub on your face that clears the skin, but it is very gentle so this is not a microdermabrasion session nor an extraction session. This is for skin, body and face that needs some serious TLC.

After the treatment I felt very tired. But in a good way. Like stress had flown the coop and I would be able to indulge in a big, long nap. Of course I couldn’t since I had meetings to attend, but it was nice to ‘feel’ myself again.

This morning, almost 24 hours after the treatment my skin looks amazing, glowing and super soft.
