A New Year Approaching…
Listening to Beethoven has been my obsession the last month when I’m home alone and trying to regroup, relax and maybe write a few lines or three. At the moment I have a hard time getting anything down on paper when music has lyrics. The lyrics get me too involved in the song in question and I drift off into that universe…. and away I go…. and out the window the writing goes ;-)… But everyone is different. And sometimes electronic music does the trick for me too. But for the moment Beethoven rocks my world.
Anyways, today has been a little weird for me. Today was the day I realized that I only have a couple of days left in LA in 2010. On Thursday I jet off to NYC and even though I’m head over heels with NYC I’m in a state of modern melancholy to leave my new apartment and friends for so long.
Also, there’s something about a new year approaching. Right? Like, I’m suddenly contemplating ‘Where was I a year ago today… And there’s also a bit of: Where will I be a year from now..?’… Well, a year ago I just got out of 10 days silent Vipassana meditation camp in Fresno.
That was beyond intense. Wow! But it taught me a lot. I cannot tell which was more important to me than the other from that journey. Was it the 10 hour of meditation a day sitting cross legged and feeling physical pain beyond the ordinary having tears running down your cheeks. Was it the fact that you could not look anybody in the eye, nor speak or communicate with a single person those 10 days. Or was it that you slept in barracks with 13 other women, whose name you didn’t know. Or was it the fact that you got up 4 am every morning to do the first 2,5 hours of meditation before breakfast …?
I’m not sure…. But I learned one thing that has helped me since: I learned to regard things ‘as they are’. Not to see things as you want them to be. And what does that mean? Well, in theory I guess it has to do with a person letting go of any judgment of a situation, person, relationship…. Whatever. And it is really not easy at first. But in practice – for me at least the 10 days sleeping on a wooden brick and only communicating with deers ans squirrels in the forest made me very humble. Took me back to basics – to my hippie roots. The body and mind becomes your own private laboratory of discoveries for 10 straight days. And lemme tell you. It can get intense….!!!! Just saying hehe 😉
Returning into the city again and exploring how much we all have in material goods, people who love us etc…. was very overwhelming and nurturing. I daresay, very much an eyeopener.
I don’t mean to preach anything I don’t take myself, so I’m not advertising for anything. But I’m just saying: Everyday I see people caught up in power games and drama. And what for? When push comes to shove we are all naked and look the same under our Lanvin, Marc Jacobs and H&M. I think ‘drama’ is the equivalent to white sugar = ’empty calories’. The rush makes you feel alive for a short period of time. You feel the adrenaline kicking in. Anger, love, hate, lust! Big feelings! But then what? A big fat nothing…..
Ok, enough of that. I just wanted to show some pics from LA and it took off… It must be that damned Beethoven 😉
