Crocodile Whispering

Do you like crocs? No, I’m not talking about the hideous plastic shoes that some people much mistakenly wore a couple of years back. Also called the fashion mistake of the century. No, I’m talking about the real deal. A real American crocodile. Well, I do. And here in Iguana Beach we have one. A real life wild one living in the little lake just 55 yards from our house smack on the golf course. I kid you not. Apparently it’s been hanging out here on the golf course for a couple of months and Thomas is bonding with it. AKA feeding it and teaching it tricks. Like 2 hand claps means ‘Come here! Feeding time.’. And 3 hand claps means ‘No more food. Go away’. Funnily enough he responds best to the first command: ‘Feeding time’.

His name is Breadfan and I would shoot him to be about 5’6” long. American Crocodiles can grow to be 20 feet just to give you an estimate of what we are dealing with here. It’s a pretty impressive animal and I know you should never trust it. But I’m surprised how well behaved Breadfan is when he hangs out on the brim of the lake waiting for Thomas to cut the next piece of Ox heart for him. Crocodile whispering or not, I think it ‘effing’ rocks!

I’m headed to the beach now, then Granada and tomorrow I’m off to the The City of Angels again…
