An Afternoon in Granada

Headed back to my home in Hollywood and I’m browsing through a few of my pictures from my days in beautiful Nicaragua. A country so diverse, full of possibilities and unexplored nature. Yet it has undergone it’s share of bloody revolutions, devastating earthquakes and dictatorships and it shows.

Some of the cities are barren, cold and basically created out of a few pieces of wood and plastic bags, while others show signs of unbelievable wealth and abundance. Both, however, appear to be in a state of decay. It seems that it is not in the Nicaraguan culture to maintain buildings, roads, historic landmarks or nature. A pity? Yes, but it makes sense though, when you learn that 48 % of the Nicaraguan population live below the poverty line and 79.9 % of the population live with less than 2 USD per day. This is according to the PNUD. Think about it! 2 bucks per day. I am pretty sure first thought that comes to mind is not how to repair the local church, the highway or the colonial style houses in Granada.It is most likely how to feed your podes and yourself.

Nicaragua is a country of contrasts. I am sure that within the next 5-10 years we will see a slow rising in the economy since there is so much to invest in and buy if you have the assets. I’m surprised so few have looked to this part of the world.

Nevermind… Here are some pics from one of the most beautiful cities in Nicaragua: Granada; The oldest city in Central America. We spent one afternoon just walking around and taking in previous centuries of beauty and decay… Enjoy!
