NYC LOVE
Why is it that time flies like a G6 when you are in NYC? Since I got here Thursday afternoon I have experienced more, walked more, talked more, met more people, shopped more and been challenged artistically more than I have in a whole month in LA.
NYC is the most amazing city in the world. No doubt! I’m almost contemplating moving here again. That is a feeling I haven’t had in over a year since I’m actually quite happy in LA.
But I’m really in love with doing theater again and working in an ensemble. It is so rewarding to ‘take the ride’ of the story as the character from A to Z. To actually do a whole play chronologically and not shoot a scene here and there in accordance to locations, time and money. It feels good and I love to see how everyone is working together and off each other like were we in a big band or an orchestra. 12 actors and one director. Of course we do our homework as actors, but in this process I’m experiencing now there is actually time for questions, for ‘figuring stuff out’ and talking about it one on one with the director or with the ensemble. This is nice since the play I’m in is quite abstract.
I could go on and on about my excitement for the play and the work, but other than theater I have done a lot of NYC things too. When I lived in the city I didn’t like Central Park much. Over crowded, hot, humid and not fun. This time around it’s different. It has been raining a lot so everything is so green and there are not that many people in the park yet. Next week I’m going to visit The Met and my favorite spot ‘The Temple of Dendur’. Annnnnnd I hear the McQueen exhibit is amazing. So I’m doing that. Other than that I already shopped two pairs of shoes in my fave little shoe shop. My flat boots are worn out after 3 days of walking in the city, so I got new ones plus a pair of tan heels. I wore them out to The Box yesterday and they were great π
Speaking of The Box; When I lived in the city there were rumors about this amazing new hot place, which was about to open. An old hidden Vaude Ville Theater. Before it was open to the public I was invited to audition there as a dancer and performer. A choreographer and pro dancer girl friend of mine asked me to come in and I spent one morning dancing cabaret on the scene in heels with a bunch of other girls. It was a fun experience to be in this old, forgotten theater on Lower East Side. After the audition I had an interview with the owners. All was dandy, chilled and sweet. The pay sounded amazing, but when they asked me if I had a problem dancing topless I did a double take. Looking back I should have known. But nobody knew at that time since everythign about The Box was ‘hush-hush’. Not even my dancer girl friend who had invited me to the audition knew.
So today when I visit The Box, like I did yesterday, I smile to myself and drink a toast to the brave and very beautiful ladies on stage.
Enjoy your Sunday night where ever you are…. XOXO KK
