To Pandora and Back

Sorry that I’ve been MIA lately, but I have a really good reason; I went on a trip to a remote island in the Caribbean and turned out that there was no phone, internet, roads, cars, mirrors, showers. Really not much of anything, which resembles civilization as we are used to it in the big cities. It was a bit like going back to my flower child/hippie roots where humans have respect for nature and live in and from what surrounds them. I really enjoyed it.

We lived in bungalows on poles with outdoor bathrooms i.e.: You bathe in a bucket of fresh water taken from the local well and use locally fabricated coconut soap to clean up. No mirrors, and everything in the hut is made out of natural materials. Palm leaves, wood etc. Meals are eaten around a table in the ‘living room hut’ together with the lovely couple, who own the place, their two children and the other guests at the compound. All foods are organic and mostly local bien sur and prepared from scratch.

It was a Robinson Crusoe experience. Something I can truly recommend. The ocean is crystal clear, the lifestyle is chilled and the people are very friendly.

One night we made the hike through lush jungle to the ‘city’ or port if you wish to try out a local restaurant and the most stunning view appeared. Mind you, there are no roads on this island. All transportation is by foot through the jungle or by boat. Meandering our way out of the jungle and into a pasture of grass and banana palm trees a surprising vision of fireflies suddenly appeared and lit up the balmy Caribbean night like a thousand little stars. Magical! I felt like I was a friggin’ Na’vi gliding through a Pandora landscape.

Definitely a vision I will never forget in this lifetime.

Here are a few photos from the trip. None of the Pandora experience since that should be experienced in real life….

Getting there ain’t easy. 2 flights, a taxi, a boat, and a 40 minute hike through the jungle awaits me. Picture is shot in Managua Aiport @ 5 am.

Pit stop on the main island before the boat ride to the mini island; our destination…

jungle hair and no makeup while finishing up an article for Costume Magazine (Denmark)

The hammock on the right is mine… 😉

building stuff… 😉

No shoes, no service…

I am totally aware of the fact, that I am not reading Tolstoy or Nietzsche in this picture. I know, it would have been cool if I did. But I’m on vacay and I gotta say: Lauren Conrad’s books are my guilty pleasure. Reading about the life I live, but being in Hippie ville central worked out like a charm for me…

Prepping the bonfire for tonight 😀

Good Morning World!!!!
