Thursday Art Day

I’m stoked about having my family from New Mexico and Copenhagen in town! They arrived late on Wednesday night and I’m taking them around The City of Angels the coming week until we are Jackson Hole bound. Yes, that is Jackson Hole as in Wyoming. And yes, I have never set foot there yet. We are going for the famous Renaissance Weekend that my father is invited to and I’m super excited about it.

Ok, back to my LA story; Yesterday I took my family to an event that represents the new, cool and more underground part of LA. A ‘Live Painting’ situation at the recently new opened gallery on La Brea LAB ART. The idea is that a handful of new and cool artists are painting ‘live’ from 7pm – 10 pm while spectators, party animals, art buyers and friends of the house mingle around, drink in hand tapping their feet to the tunes from the DJ.

Once again I’m all smiles about the crowd and atmosphere in Iskander Lemseffer’s gallery space. It is very hip, yet laid back and aside from the street art on the walls and the floor, you meet a super vibrant, interesting and international group of people here. I arrived 7 pm on the dot pretty much since I had to leave early for the show at The Gagosian. So early bird here saw how the artists were setting up and just beginning to get their hands into the paint. It was great and as I jumped into the cab Beverly Hills bound I saw how huge crowds of people were swarming to the doors like flies to a colorful cupcake.

Next stop was The Gagosian on Camden Drive in Beverly Hills where Perio Golia was showing his cake sculptures and paintings. The gallery is very beautiful and reminds me style wise a bit of The New Museum on Bowery in NYC. I arrived just as the show was closing so I barely made it to the private party on the rooftop before we drove off to the new Ciprianis Hotel in town. At the restaurant ‘Mr. C’ I met Thierry Guetta , who is probably better known as ‘Mr. Brainwash’. The man who made the movie ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop’ about Banksy. Today Thierry is both a great street art painter as well as a film maker with an Academy Award nomination under his belt.

Aside from art the food, the Bellinis and atmosphere is the divine at the Cipriani’s Hotel. Please go and visit if you are in town and feel like treating yourself to amazing Italian food and superb service in savvy surroundings.

Ok, now I’m headed out the door going rollerblading with my family. So please call me ‘Roller Girl’ from now on… 😉
