Project Ethos

So on Tuesday I went to Project Ethos here in Hollywood, which is a musical, art, fashion event that promotes emerging talents. I gotta be frank and say I am not too big a fan of the venue Avalon. In my POV it’s an old ‘rave cage’, so to speak, that on a normal night is filled to the brim with very tanned Bridge and Tunnels who are getting trashed and high as kites in too tight clothes.

However, this night was very different. The crowd, the ambience, everything and I am happy to see such a great initiative right here in The City of Angels. The youth is the future so bring it!

 I was there for the fashion show to see who had been chosen to show as the new promising talents. Both very new emerging designs and a little more seasoned designers from ‘Project Runway’ had been selected.

2 designers in particular caught my attention. Mihail Kian and Michael Costello. Both showed great finness and interesting shapes, cuts and at times deconstructed ideas in their collections, which in my opinion lifts them from the usual LA standard.

Mihail Kian was all about black on black and deconstruction meets sexy lace. It was lovely to take in the simplicity of some of his styles and I liked the makeup  with the accentuated eyebrows and pink lips.

Michael Costello took a more glamorous route: A couple of floor-length white gowns gave references to Gucci’s famous white gown that was on everybody’s lips when Tom Ford was still ‘in office’. The sand colored romper was super sexy and set us back into a 1970’s style James Bond movie and the Goddess sequin dress in gold channeled both Michelle Pfeiffer in ‘Scarface’ and Sharon Stone in ‘Casino’.

Nobody invented the wheel on Tuesday night, but sometimes you don’t have to if the ideas are inspiring and beautiful. And so they were.
